May 23, 2008, Newsletter Issue #206: Itīs OK to Eat Some Meat

Tip of the Week

Meat and animal products can be a part of the vegetarian diet. Too often, people feel guilty about eating meat on occasion or some other animal product and then forego the vegetarian diet altogether. Many vegetarians will eat turkey on Thanksgiving (try a range fed organic turkey), and many people will consume a diet almost exclusively consisting of plant based foods with the exception of meat that they have hunted such as elk. Basically, take the level of the diet to the optimal level that you are capable of and allow it to mature. Interestingly, as the level of meat and animal products is decreased in the diet, their taste often loses appeal and after time can actually become repulsive tasting.
