Yesterday, at my local grocery store, I saw for the first time soy egg nog. Although I try to generally avoid soy products due to its harmful side effects caused by the way it is processed in the factories, I had to try it. I bought Silk brand "Nog," although there were other brands available. I did not see any rice or almond milk flavored like egg nog--just soy milk.
The taste is distinctively soy milk with a palpable hint of traditional egg nog flavor. It seems to have less sugar than regular egg nog and a more muted flavor--comparable to "Lite Egg Nog." It would be great with a splash of cinnamon and nutmeg to spruce it up or mixed with some 7-Up, Sprite, or Sierra Mist (Hey, were not drinking this stuff to lose weight and prevent cavities!)
A 1/2 cup serving contains 2g of fat, 15g of carbohydrate, 12g of sugar, and 3g of protein. The ingredients include: all natural soy milk, all natural evaporated cane juice, natural flavors, sea salt, carrageenan, tumeric, and annatto (for color). Who knows what "all natural means"? Non-GMO, organic, and other terms like that were not used, so your guess is as good as mine.
And...finally, the price. I paid $3.29 for a small one-quart container. It's in a "holiday green" carton--different from Silk's usual royal blue.
