Say No to Sugars

If you are trying to maintain a yeast free diet steer clear of sugars. It is in your best interest to eliminate sugar in all forms. Sugar feeds the yeast and assists in its growth. Foods to avoid include: white sugar, brown sugar, maple syrup, honey, corn syrup, molasses, turbinado, date sugar, raw sugar, amisake, demerrara, rice syrup, and sorghum.

When shopping for foods, and be on the lookout for the enemy. Read labels carefully to be sure you're not missing something. Some hidden sugars to peel your eyes for include: fructose, sucrose, maltose, glycogen, lactose, glucose, sorbitol, mannitol, galactose, monosaccharides, and polysaccharides.

Yeast Free Pizza Dough

Just because you've taken on a yeast free diet doesn't mean that you have to miss out on all of the foods that you normally enjoy. Did you know that you can enjoy pizza sans yeast? Here is a great yeast free recipe for pizza dough that will have you on the right track to making a fabulous pizza pie:



  • 1 1/2 cup each all-purpose flour and whole wheat flour

  • 1/4 cup cornmeal

  • 2 teaspoons baking powder

  • 1 teaspoons salt

  • 1 1/2 cup water


Mix the dry ingredients together first. Then, add water and mix together with hands. When it is a good consistency, the dough should easily come off of the sides of the bowl to form a ball. Press the dough evenly onto a nonstick cookie sheet or pizza pan. Bake the crust for 10-15 minutes in at 400 degrees. Next add any toppings the toppings you would like and bake for an additional 15 minutes.

Stay Yeast Free

If you've opted to go the yeast free route then you should only select yeast free food products when shopping. All foods containing yeast should be avoided. Foods to pass on include:

  • Baker's yeast
  • Brewer's yeast
  • Engevita
  • Torula
  • Any nutritional yeast
  • Baked goods raised with yeast (breads, rolls, crackers, bagels, pastries, and muffins)

Some yeast-free alternatives to incorporate into your diet may include:

Easy Bread Without Yeast

If you have a craving for some delicious bread but can't have any yeast, have no fear. There are plenty of yeast-free bread options available to you.  Many people who adhere to yeast-free diets opt to make their own breads however most  people think that making homemade bread is a long process that takes a good deal of time. The truth is that yeast-free bread can be made easily in under an hour. Just follow the simple recipes below that you can make in 45 minutes or less. 


1 cup cornmeal, 1 egg, 1 teaspoon baking powder, salt, 1 tablespoon shortening


First, preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Mix cornmeal, salt and shortening in a bowl and a small amount of boiling water and keep adding it until it creates a paste. Add egg and baking powder and continue mixing. Place entire mixture in a in a greased pan and bake for 20 minutes. Allow the bread to cool and serve.


Another simple receipe:


2 1/2 cups self-rising flour, 3 tablespoon white sugar, 1 1/2 oz. can of carbonated lemon-lime soda 


To begin, preheat the oven to 350 degrees and grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan. Next, Combine the flour, sugar and soda. Put the mixture in the greased pan. Bake the mixture for 45 minutes.  Note: If the soda you use contains sugar, lessen the amount of sugar used in the recipe.
